At times, the water can be very rough, with strong winds and currents. THIS IS A WATER START RACE. As with all on-water activities in rough conditions, safety should be the first concern of all participants. The orderly, safe, and sportsmanlike conduct of this event is your personal responsibility, and is essential to guaranteeing the future of The Rotary Great Race.
Times will be kept and recorded for each boat, and results will be made available at the finish line (and later posted on the Rotary Great Race web site). Serious racers are allowed and encouraged, within the guidelines of safety and sportsmanship, to push one another to their limits. Casually oriented participants are equally welcome, and may cover the course in a more relaxed fashion.
Fundraising
We encourage ALL participants to solicit pledges for your race from family, friends and associates. There is no amount too small or too large!
If you raise $100 or more (per individual) you will receive the official Rotary Great Race Hat! Your participation fee ($25) will be applied toward the $100. See Fundraising Tips! |

The funds raised go to the numerous humanitarian service efforts supported by Marblehead Rotary Club. For more information visit www.marbleheadrotary.com.

Event Rules and Boat Classifications
Marblehead Rotary Club reserves the right to refuse to register any individual or boat. MRC may also expel or refuse any participant or boat before or during the event for lack of required equipment, unsafe operation, disregard for event rules, or unsporting behavior. Consumption of alcohol and/or use of illegal drugs at any time during the Rotary Great Race event is prohibited. See Event Rules & Boat Classifications. The spirit of the Rotary Great Race holds that racing boats will not be entered in touring or recreational boat classes.
Waiver
Unloading/Loading/Parking
Vehicles will be allowed into the Devereux Beach parking lot while unloading/loading boats and equipment. However, NO VEHICLES CAN BE PARKED IN THE DEVEREUX LOT DURING THE EVENT. ALL VEHICLES MUST BE MOVED AS SOON AS UNLOADING/LOADING OF GEAR IS COMPLETE.
Parking will be available directly next to the Devereux Lot in the Marblehead Residents Beach Lot or across the street (Ocean Avenue) in the Riverhead Parking Lot. It is recommended that the water participants park in the Riverhead Lot for easy access at the completion of the race.
Parking attendants will be on site to assist with in and out at both lots.
Race Numbers
Race numbers should be taped on both sides of your bow. Call your number to the timers at the Devereux Beach finish line. Do not cross the finish line twice.
|
It is essential that race personnel know who is on the course. Therefore, each participant must confirm his or her presence with the start committee and the finish committee at Devereux Beach.
If you are not at Devereux Beach 1 hour after your start time, you will be expected to pull out of the race and notify the committee.
Race officials need you to be able to complete the race in 2 1/2 hours. Chase boats and the finish committee will not be responsible for racers who do not comply.
|
Anyone who retires from the race at any point between the registration table and the finish line should inform the Race Committee by calling 978-764-9407. Otherwise, people will be needlessly searching for a boat that isn’t on the course.

LOGISTICS CAN DELAY YOU! Please allow plenty of time to park, register, attend the captain's meeting and launch.
